Holistic & Connected Community Programs

Community & Special Events

We believe in the value of collective healing. Being with other bereaved children, individuals, and families who “get it” is healing in itself. Special days & holidays are often experienced differently after the loss of someone we love. J.A.G. Village hosts different activities and events based around recreation and/or other creative activities that allow individuals & families to have fun while both honouring their loved ones and coexisting with grief and/or painful feelings. Please stay tuned for upcoming events.

Past Programs

The Village Youth R.O.A.D.E.

The Youth R.O.A.D.E. Program was a youth engagement initiative founded on the values of KLC: Kindness, Love, and Compassion. Created for bereaved children and youth, the program provided opportunities for participants to actively plan and organize monthly activities for their peers who were also navigating grief. Activities included recreation, arts and crafts, celebrations, board games, and other opportunities for connection and community-building.

The purpose of the program was to create a safe, supportive environment where bereaved children and youth could belong to a village of peers who understood the impact of loss and who respected and honored each other's unique grief experiences. By fostering meaningful connections and peer leadership, the program helped young people find support, friendship, and a sense of belonging as they navigated their grief journeys.

The Village R.O.A.D.E. was named in honor of its founding youth members: Davis, Ally. Owen N, Rhys, Owen L., and Ethan, whose vision and leadership helped shape the program. The guiding KLC values were named in recognition of founding members Kyla, Lana, and Chelsea.

These remarkable young trailblazers had each experienced the death of someone they loved. Through their shared experiences of loss, they came together to support other grieving youth, foster compassionate peer connections, and help shift conversations and perspectives surrounding grief and loss within their communities.

Group for Grandparents and Extended Family Members Experiencing Moments Meet After Loss

Navigating grief is an immensely challenging journey, especially when family members are coping with the devastating loss of a child. Recognizing a significant gap in available public health services for grandparents and extended family members, we proudly offered The GEMMA Group as part of an ongoing legacy of compassion and support.

The GEMMA Group was created specifically to provide a safe, understanding, and supportive space for grandparents and other extended family members who had experienced the profound loss of a child within their family. Through connection, shared experiences, and compassionate guidance, participants were able to honor their grief while finding strength and support among others who understood the unique impact of such a loss.

As a legacy program, The GEMMA Group helped ensure that extended family members received the acknowledgment, care, and community support they needed as they navigated their grief journey.
