FAQs
Is counselling covered under insurance?
Counselling by a Registered Social Worker is NOT covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). However, extended health care benefits through your employers often do cover these services.
Contact your insurance provider to find out if clinical services by a Registered Social Worker are covered. It may also be advantageous to ask what percentage of the fee your plan covers, what the maximum coverage is per year, and how you will get reimbursed.
Official receipts are emailed after every session and can also be used as a medical expense tax exemption.
Do we offer any subsidized grief and bereavement counselling services?
J.A.G. Village understands the importance of grief and bereavement support. Through the generous donations of friends & family, there are some J.A.G. Village scholarships available to help reduce financial barriers that may prevent children, individuals and families from obtaining service. If this support would be helpful for your family, please let us know and we will help facilitate this process.
How often should I attend therapy sessions?
The answer to this question depends on a variety of factors, including the person. Typically, counselling includes weekly, fifty-minute sessions that last for several months. Then our additional programs and services vary week to week, depending on individual needs.
It's important to note that grief is different for everyone; therefore, we can't estimate how often you should attend counselling. However, we can say to listen to your mind and body.
