Frequently Asked Questions
If you don’t see your question here, you’re always welcome to reach out…we’ll respond with care.
Is grief counselling covered under insurance in Ontario?
Counselling with a Registered Social Worker and pychotherapists is not covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). However, many extended health benefit plans do provide coverage for grief counselling and mental health services.
We encourage you to check with your insurance provider to better understand your plan, including reimbursement rates and yearly maximums. Receipts are provided after each session and may also be used for medical expense tax purposes.
If this process feels overwhelming, we’re here to help guide you.
Do you offer subsidized grief and bereavement support?
We understand that financial barriers can make it harder to access support, especially during times of loss. Through the generosity of our community, J.A.G. Village offers a limited number of scholarships to help reduce these barriers.
If this support would be helpful, we invite you to reach out. We will walk alongside you in exploring what options may be available.
How often should I attend grief counselling?
There is no one “right” way or timeline for grief. Each person’s experience is unique, and your needs may change over time.
Some individuals begin with weekly sessions, while others prefer a different pace. Together, we can explore what feels most supportive for you.
We gently encourage you to listen to your mind and body, they often guide us in knowing when support is needed.
What if I’m not sure what kind of support I need?
That’s okay. You don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out. We can start with a conversation and help you explore what kinds of support might feel most helpful, whether that’s individual counselling, group connection, or something else entirely.
I’m not sure I’m ready, can I still reach out?
Yes. Reaching out doesn’t mean you have to be ready for everything—it can simply be a first, gentle step.
You’re welcome to connect in whatever way feels easiest. We’ll meet you where you are, with care and without pressure.
What can I expect after I contact you?
When you reach out, you can expect a thoughtful response within 24–48 hours. From there, we’ll help you explore next steps and options for support at a pace that feels right for you.
Is my information confidential?
Yes. Your privacy and confidentiality are deeply respected. Any information you share is handled with care, in accordance with professional and ethical standards.
Do you offer virtual grief counselling in Ontario?
Yes. We offer both in‑person and virtual grief counselling to support individuals, children, youth, and families across Ontario. This allows you to access care in a way that feels most comfortable and accessible to you.
